October 7: What is an alternative media?

The first week, I'll introduce my own alternative media's experience and points of view, specially regarding the short of left-wing management's experience under introspection, as well as make some examples and the discussion which cases inspires. In three hours time, I hope the last hour may let classmates discusses alternative media in HK (participators supposed to prepare this media information, like release mode, contents, style, audience , income origin before), those discuss subjects turn a assignment after lecture, will invite particpators by own work experience, the political attitude or the cultural research orientation pursues possibility of the analysis. my lecture will focaus on:

The second week, workshop is best have the network computers to carry on, besides my introduce about blog and wiki history and the influence, the classmate must constructs their own blog after my brief introduction. And makes result of and the idea the first week analysis first entry. Under the possible condition, we to be allowed to spend a week-long time collective to complete Lingnan the MCS system, has encompassed blog as well as wiki, as curriculum continuing with cultural research discussion and news distribution center.

October 21: Own our media -- Indymedia (IMC) Center

The third week, we'll with the anti- globalization movement as a start point introduce the indymedia.org experience, and extends discusses the global cities to be hubs of the movement and of th counter-mainstream media, as well as the emerging citizen reporter concept and it's commerical practice in Japan and Koren. I'll also introduce twimc.org the creation experience, and discusses hk indymedia with the schoolmate the possibility. Since and has summarized three weeks we regarding in addition alternative media, the social movement, techno-driven peer news attainment.

my lecture will focaus on:

  • A brief history of IMC Center
  • Anti-globalization actions and IMC's global settings
  • Core values: "Be media, don't hate media", open publishing, task-oriented, collective editing, social gathering and direct actions, activist as reporter and vice versa
  • activists news v.s. citizen news: Korean OhMyNews ,Japan JanJan
  • An introduction of the Taiwan Indymedia Center
  • Looking into the future: the possibility of setting up a HK Indymedia Center
